I Turned my Instagram Into a Picture Book

Updated: Dec 20, 2021

If you told me a month ago that I deactivated my Instagram, I would be devastated. I saw Instagram as my one and only art portfolio. I put a lot of time into my photos and art to reflect the four seasons, and was exclusively sharing it on Instagram. Not only was It was visually appealing to me, but I love the four seasons in nature. It encouraged an intention for creating my art, which helped if I had a creative block. Living in Southern California, I don't entirely experience the four seasons. My art and photography helped me seek it out, even if that meant taking a trip to the snow.

(few examples of spring, winter, and autumn.)

I believe If I become too comfortable relying on something as an artist, especially something as unstable as Instagram, It's time to take on the challenge of doing things differently.

I wont learn or grow if I keep doing the same thing with no new feedback.

I loved seeing my photos printed and displayed side by side, on physical pages.

I ordered this book for myself and for in-person sharing with friends.

It's part of me experimenting with existing as an artist offline.

(a couple photos from "Wraith in the Air" photo series I did in Oregon. Inspired by the idea of medieval ghosts haunting old stone structures)

(some photos from my series inspired by Lord of the Ring's Nazgul. Also taken in Oregon, the rotting tree roots really captured my vision alongside my Nazgul-like impression)

(Photos sharing the viking age sewing and weaving projects I finished, aesthetically displayed to take you back in time)

The photos printed out beautifully, I highly recommend my photographer friends start printing your photos. Bring your photos off the screen and into the physical world, it is a totally different viewing and sharing experience.

I will continue to share my photo series on my website, you can see my four seasons under the "Gallery" tab.

Here's to me seeking out more alternatives of sharing art and learning in the process!

(Back of the book. I had my book made through Shutterfly. not sponsored!)
